Back in the days when The pioneer woman star Ree Drummond homeschooled her four children before becoming one of the most recognizable faces on the Food Network, she turned to beloved retro recipes to nurture her fry. A favorite dish was passed on from her grandmother. Chicken and noodles are not the consistency of a soup, but rather the consistency of a stew. This comforting dish is great for a cool winter day or when you want a meal that makes you feel good.
Ree’s family recipe was shown in a season 4 episode titled ‘School Day’
In the episode titled “School Day,” Drummond explained how she worked with her children Alex, Paige, Bryce, and Todd to make sure they completed their studies.
On this very day, she chose to make them into a favorite family recipe that was handed down from her grandmother.
Drummond discussed the difference in her recipe from a basic soup.
“It is not to be confused with chicken noodle soup. It’s more like a chicken stew, so delicious, ”Drummond explained. “This is also a beautiful dish, lots of clear colors.”
“There are a few steps, but none of them are complicated. You need to have some time.
She admitted that she did not always make complicated meals when she homeschooled her children or fed her cowboy husband, Ladd Drummond.
“Sometimes we have peanut butter sandwiches. Sometimes we have leftovers from the night before,” Drummond said.
Drummond explained that for this particular dish, she found that frozen noodles worked best, “the same ones my grandmother used.”
How to Make Ree Drummond’s Chicken and Noodles
Drummond called this recipe “soul-pleasing” on her Pioneer Woman website.
The recipe has several steps, but could not be easier.
First, Drummond cooks a whole chicken until it is cooked, removes the meat and retains the delicious broth. She adds the bones back to the broth and boils it further to continue tasting it. While this is happening, Drummond tears the chicken and removes the skin.
Diced carrots and celery are added to the pan when the bones are completely removed.
Spices and flavors are added to enhance the flavor of the broth.
Frozen noodles are added, followed by shredded chicken. Then, while the ingredients continue to simmer, Drummond creates a slurry of water and flour. This mixture thickens the broth and changes it from the consistency of a soup to a stew. She finishes it with a splash of heavy cream.
The Pioneer Woman star shares the memories that this dish evokes
Drummond shared on his website, “This is a comfort food from my childhood on the golf course and something I can highly recommend if you have never encountered it in your life.”
“It’s beautiful, simple homemade chicken and noodles – a thick, hearty dish not to be confused with a thinner, embroidered chicken noodle soup. It’s so perfectly delicious and soulful,” the Food Network star continued.
“While you could certainly go the homemade turbo route and make your own egg noodles, frozen noodles are a quick and easy alternative that I think is just as good. You will not believe how delicious such a simple dish can be, ”Drummond claimed.
The complete step-by-step recipe for chicken and noodles can be found on the Pioneer Woman website.
That Pioneer woman sent on Saturdays at 10 EST on the Food Network.
