Belleville, Illinois – Norman E. Carron, 95, of Belleville, IL, born January 25, 1926 in Brickey’s, MO, died December 31, 2021 at his residence.
Norman was a laboratory technician for more than 45 years, starting at American Zinc in Fairmont City, IL and finishing at Cerro Copper in Sauget, IL and retiring in 1990. After retirement, Norman worked part-time for more than 15 years driving a tractor for Eckert’s Family Farms.
Norman was born in 1926, so small that it is said that he fit in a shoebox, and his mother placed him behind the stove to keep him warm. He was a child during the Great Depression and often talked about his childhood moving from Missouri to Illinois, city to city. He loved his family and taught them the values ​​of working hard and appreciating what one has. He loved being outdoors and camping with family and friends, playing horseshoes, washing machine, card games like Pinochle and Blitz. Throughout his early days playing Chicago Ball and his love of dancing polka, he became affectionately known as the “Father Crazy Legs”. Norman was witty, humorous and at times known to be sarcastic in saying something.
When he retired, he enjoyed traveling, seeing much of the country, and he and Dorothy became winter Texans, mostly in the Rio Grande Valley. He developed lasting friendships from those days. It was there that he learned to play “Texas marbles” (Exacerbation) and loved his Sundays at home, where he was with his grandson, Steven, and usually win.
He enjoyed being at home, especially outside, whether he was working in his garden or resting comfortably in his lawn chair, keeping an eye on the weather. His favorite ritual was Friday night dinners with the Carron clan, where he ate at various restaurants. This was important to him and it continues today with the belief that family is everything.
Prior to Norman, his parents Edgar and Ella, born Boyer, Carron, died; his first wife Annabelle, born Hille, Carron; his second wife Norma, born Kreitler, Carron; his sister, Louise, born Carron, Steinberg, his grandchildren Allison and Daniel Carron.
Norman leaves behind his wife, Dorothy, born Noethen, Carron of Belleville, IL; his children Norman Richard (Maria) Carron of Belleville; Patricia (Robert Sr.) Smith from Belleville, Denise (Kelvin) Argo from Belleville, Kathleen (Michael) Chace from Hecker, IL, William (Ronni) Carron from New Athens, IL, Ronald Carron from Belleville, stepchildren Lynn Hudson from St. Louis, MO, Rhonda Hudson of Clarksville, TN and Allen Hudson of St. Louis, MO. Louis, MO; his grandchildren Robert Jr. (Annette) Smith, Jeffery (Jenny) Smith, Steven Argo, Emily Argo, Matthew Gass, Mindy (Donnie) Howard, Melissa (Luke) Wessel, Danny Arrowood, Taylor Thornton, Jamie Stewart, Ashley Jalinsky, Cody Hudson; 10 great-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren, numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins ​​and friends.
Memorials: Memorials can be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Per Norman’s wish he will be cremated.
