Here is what I know is true at the moment | News, sports, jobs

Here’s what I know is true today as I write this column on the afternoon of Thursday, January 13, 2022.

– We are in the middle of January practically and well, it “S” the word has largely not existed for the winter of 2021-22.

So far at least.

There has not been much snow and I do not remember that until now I have scraped something white off my windshield. Plus, there has been more winter heat than extreme, longer periods of bitter cold, though you would never know it from our last gas bill. Yikes!

Maybe we should just cuddle around a campfire until the end of April or so.

Milder conditions make the morning stall quite comfortable or as comfortable as manure removal can be. I would much rather say “good morning, boys” to Thunder and Tucker than “Brrrrr.”

Between the three of us, we have not had that much steam from our nostrils.

Only recently did I finally throw myself into my new winter coat (not in the barn, mind you), which I bought at the end of last winter season, which I can barely remember if it was good or bad or temperature did not matter.

All I know is that it’s good to have a winter coat on that I not only like, but it costs less than $ 18. Yes honey!

I even talked (shame was more like that) Better Half to buy a new winter coat. I think our kids went to elementary school when he broke down and got his last. (They’re in their 30s now, if that helps give you the big picture.)

He has not worn it yet, for I guess he’s saving it for winter weather.

Now reportedly there is snow in our future, the opportunity – ie. threat – too much snow perhaps, but how much is someone’s guess or prediction.

I’m still not a fan of all the possibilities that could unfold. Lots. A little. Maybe. Maybe not. Just give me the bad news when you know.

Absorbing all models and scenarios is more exhausting than empowering.

– In the duhhh department, I learned earlier this week that if you use LED lights in an overhead light set with a dimmer, you will eventually be in the dark.

When this happened in one of the living rooms, I feared the worst, thinking, oh no, the sky is falling and repairs will be one thing that keeps me from buying even winter clothes on sale.

But how good is it to have an electrician in his circle of friends, one who does not take you to task due to lack of LED knowledge.

Instead, we were enlightened with a new understanding. A simple replacement of the bulbs and we could see clearly now.

Suddenly, I no longer rearranged the deck furniture on the Titanic.

Full speed ahead!

– It does not take much to make some people happy. This will include my trusty son, who only had a single request from his mother recently, a chronic disappointment in the department what’s for dinner.

Personally, I could settle for toasted cheese sandwiches and tomato soup, but not everyone who shares my approach to food planning is easy to do.

He wanted me to do two things.

One was the recipe for turkey bread that he had seen Trisha Yearwood prepare “Trisa’s Southern Kitchen,” her Food Network show.

Hi, if Garth Brooks eats this, it should be really good, so the mindset is here.

The other was a Mr. Food test kitchen dessert – a recipe for Cinnamon Bun Poke Cake, which is primarily about making a white cake from a box mix. Oh my!

The difficult thing is that he wanted both things done the same day.

My son was so happy with how both recipes turned out that I wondered if there would be any kind of consequences.

Would all the lights in the house be dimmed? Would it start to snow? The truth is, we want to find out.
